America's top five foodie cities according to TV's Adam Richman
The Man Finds Food presenter lays down the best dishes and places to try them in the States...
2. New Orleans, Louisiana
"You’ve got to try gumbo and jambalaya, got to try a roast beef po’ boy or oyster po’ boy sandwich," says Richman. "Served on a baguette with fried oysters, it comes dressed with lettuce, pickles and mustard. The two most popular places to get them are Parkway and Domilises. Visitors have also got to try some boudin – a type of loose-packed pate/sausage that’s actually created in an area called Breaux Bridge, but they sell it all over New Orleans. Then eat some beignets [sweet pastry made from deep-fried choux pastry] at the Café Du Monde, you can sit right out on the edge of the muddy Mississippi or Jackson Square. Some of my favourite high-end establishments are in New Orleans, anything that John Besh is involved with I’d say run don’t walk. August is his flagship restaurant, and I never miss a visit to his other restaurant, Borgne, when I’m in New Orleans. Meanwhile, my favourite hot wings can be found at Bayou Wings."
