America's top five foodie cities according to TV's Adam Richman
The Man Finds Food presenter lays down the best dishes and places to try them in the States...
1. New York City, New York
"This is where you have to try a proper kosher Jewish deli," explains Richman. "In some places families have been making kosher produce for generations. Carnegies, Second Avenue, Katz's, Mill Basin's are places that the plants have remained unchanged for 200-300 years and it’s like stepping into a time capsule of the city, it’s the coolest thing ever. I would say you’ve got to get a bagel in New York, the water has a profound impact and you are dealing with second, third and fourth generation bakers. There’s lots of artisanal pizza, but you’ve got to get a slice from a counter top with paper plates. People should also try at least one marquee fine dining experience. You can go to a Mario Batali place, a Michael White, Bobby Flay place, an Alex Guarnaschelli place, these people are stars for a reason... because their food is magnificent. The other thing I would say is that you need to go to the outer boroughs. Leave the island of Manhattan, go to Queens and explore great Chinese food, great Indian food in Jackson Heights, green food in Astoria, Italian food at Arthur Avenue and the Bronx. One of the reasons I became so enamoured with food is because I could get to the Dominican Republic by walking to my corner, I could make a left and be in Puerto Rico and then cross the street and be in Jamaica."
