In interview with then-Casualty executive producer Mervyn Watson, he revealed how the Christmas Casualty and Holby crossover – not so smoothly titled Casualty@Holby – arose. “I think the idea came from somebody in the comedy department [at the BBC]”. Right. Well that probably goes some way to explain the plot of this Christmas special in 2004 when Nightingale Wing burst into flames after a fuel tanker crash into the Acute Assessment Unit. It's only slightly worse than the theme tune - just the Casualty and Holby City jingle played simultaneously.
