This Friday sees the broadcast of a bespoke prequel to this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special written by Steven Moffat. The taster will air during the evening’s Children in Need celebrations and – to whet our appetite – the BBC has released an image of Matt Smith from the production.

On the night, viewers will also get to see a trailer for the Christmas special, which will include a glimpse of the Doctor with his new companion, as played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. This year’s festive episode will also feature Richard E Grant and Tom Ward in supporting roles.
