David Simon wanted to say sorry for Trump’s “venal ignorance” in his criticisms of Sadiq Khan
The creator of The Wire decided he would help drown everyone’s sorrows on Monday and buy pints for random Londoners to apologise for Donald Trump’s “venal ignorance”.
In doing so, David Simon ended up spending “hundreds of pounds” in a Covent Garden pub to soothe the pain of Donald Trump’s recent tweets attacking London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Trump’s initial criticism of Khan on Sunday was based on a misunderstanding of what the mayor had said following the London Bridge terror attack. Khan had made a statement vowing that the terrorists “would not win”, adding that “Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. There’s no reason to be alarmed.”

This was later misinterpreted by Trump to mean that Londoners shouldn’t be alarmed by terrorism.

Khan’s office initially responded by saying Khan had “more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump’s ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context his remarks”.

Trump’s raging tweets have been met with widespread criticism, and Khan has called on the British government to cancel a planned state visit by the US president.
