Shandling was well known for organising basketball matches with his comedy pals, so they figured it would be a fitting tribute to the star, who died following a suspected heart attack at the age of 66.

Kathy Griffin, Bill Maher, and Jeffrey Tambor were among the roster of players, which also featured Judd Apatow.

The writer and director took to Instagram to share a touching tribute to Shandling from all those gathered to shoot some hoops.
