It's the stuff of awards ceremony nightmares...

At last night's Mobo Awards in Glasgow, hosts Rickie Williams and Melvin Odoom were given the unenviable task of informing WSTRN – who an hour earlier had picked up the prize for Best Song – that their accolade was actually a mistake.

The trio were accidentally awarded the silverware for their track In2, before Williams and Odoom revealed that "someone picked up the wrong envelope" and the award should have gone to Abra Cadabra's Robbery featuring Krept and Konan.

The correction saw Abra Cadabra make his way to the stage to give his own speech as WSTRN watched on. But luckily the group – made up of Akelle Charles, Haile and Louis Rei – didn't walk away empty handed, having also picked up the prize for Best Newcomer.

The Mobo Awards tweeted their response to the gaffe, stating that they "deeply regretted" the mix-up.

The apology was followed up by a statement from Simon Pizey, CEO of production company Done + Dusted who produce the ceremony:

And Twitter certainly made light of the error, comparing it to the excruciating moment last year when Miss Universe host Steve Harvey accidentally declaring Miss Colombia the winner before awkwardly handing over the title to its rightful winner, Miss Philippines.
