"There are a lot very exiting things coming up. A lot drama for Michelle, which I'm looking forward to. Kate's going to put a whole new spin on the show. We're all very excited. You can feel her presence already," the star said on the red carpet at this year's British Soap Awards.

A new plotline for Marsh will see her character Michelle Connor face a marriage crisis after husband Steve McDonald learns about her recent dalliance with her first love Will.

Speaking about the possibility of Michelle and Steve splitting up, Marsh commented: "It's always going to be rocky for those two. It'll never be plain sailing.

"But Simon Gregson and I have been working together on and off for the last ten years and we love the partnership. It'd be a shame to split them up permanently, so hopefully that won't happen."

Last month, the actress celebrated her ten-year anniversary on Corrie and will next be marking her own 40th birthday in June. When asked about the upcoming milestone, Marsh replied:

"I'm all right about it. I've got beautiful children, a great job and I'm very settled. Life could be worse, right?"
