Coronation Street: Michelle to leave Weatherfield? "She thinks there's nothing left for her," says Kym Marsh

Kym Marsh has revealed that her Coronation Street character Michelle Connor will decide to quit Weatherfield after deciding that her marriage is over.

"She's got to the point where she just thinks there's nothing left for her," explains the actress."Carla's gone, her son's abroad and now it looks like her marriage is over. So when her friend tells her about a job on the cruise ship it just seems like the right thing to do. She still loves singing and it feels like a fresh start for her. She can’t bear the thought of staying in Weatherfield and seeing Steve every day."

Next week's episodes of Corrie will see events come to a head as Michelle decides that Steve will never forgive her for a recent dalliance with first love. And this last-ditch attempt to show him what he's going to be missing by taking employment on the high seas looks set to backfire. Speaking about Michelle's plan to begin a new life away from Weatherfield, Marsh adds:

"If Steve is not going to forgive her, I can totally understand her desire to get away. She probably is also doing it to try and call his bluff, but that's a dangerous game as it looks very much as though he is going to let her go..."

Recent episodes of the ITV soap have had fans up in arms at Steve's treatment of Michelle, with some vowing not to watch the show again should the pair not reconcile in the near future. On the topic of the affection in which the McDonalds are held, Marsh comments:

"The viewers do seem to really love Steve and Michelle as a couple and most people seem to want them to sort out their differences and move on. They do think that he is being a bit harsh considering what he has done to Michelle in the past!"
