Coronation Street: Lucy Fallon on the "horrific" plot that sees Bethany forced to sleep with Nathan's friend Neil
The actress admits that next week's scene was the most "uncomfortable" she's filmed so far
Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has said that an upcoming storyline that sees Bethany coerced into having sex with Nathan's friend Neil makes for "horrific" viewing.
Next week's episodes of Corrie will see Bethany forced into sleeping with Neil after she's convinced by Nathan that a debt needs to be repaid.
Nathan's claims that he's struggling financially are, of course, just a ruse and the sinister manipulator is - in reality - attempting to sexually exploit Bethany.
Speaking about the forthcoming drama, actress Lucy Fallon said: "The most uncomfortable scene I've filmed so far has been the one where Bethany is in the bedroom with Neil. The guy who plays Neil is really nice, but the scene itself was horrific."
On the topic of how the controversial grooming storyline has been received, the star added: "There are a few people who've said that it shouldn't be on at this time because it's a family show.
"But most people have said that it's really amazing that Corrie is tackling this very important issue and that these things don't get spoken about, so there ends up being no awareness. The feedback I've had has been pretty much all positive."
Events so far have seen vulnerable Bethany be hoodwinked despite the objections of mum Sarah, who is innately suspicious of Nathan's intentions.
But following the night with Neil, it looks as though Bethany will finally start to question her boyfriend's motives: "From the point that she sleeps with Neil, she’s questioning why he would let her do that. There’s a scene where she says, ‘You were supposed to love me, why would you be OK with me sleeping with someone else?’
"And he says, ‘it turns me on when you’re with other men. It makes you more desirable when other men want you.’ But from that point, there are little things that make her think that this isn’t right.
She isn’t stupid, but because his influence on her is so big, it outweighs her thoughts. But she starts to think something isn’t right."
