It’s been over a decade since the last Zorro movie, 2005’s The Legend of Zorro starring Antonio Banderas, but a new movie examining the tale of the masked bandit will add an even bigger time jump to its 1800s setting – because it’s going to be set in the future.

Directed by Gravity co-writer Jonas Cuaron (who also happens to be the son of Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron), the new film will be called Z and according to the Hollywood Reporter will be set in “the near future” while still retaining the core of the masked, caped bandit fighting for the rights of ordinary people.

To sum up: yes, we’re picturing Zorro with a lightsaber too.
