Oliver, The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug and East Is East are some of the best watches on TV on Sunday 16th April
Oliver – 5.20pm, Channel 5
Lionel Bart’s stage musical is transformed into a film worthy of its six Academy Award wins. Featuring iconic musical numbers including “Food, Glorious Food” and “You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two”, the familiar tale of Oliver is a delight to watch on screen.
The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug – 6.55pm, ITV2
The second instalment in the three-part The Hobbit series, the Desolation of Smaug, proved a worthy successor to the first film An Unexpected Journey. Bilbo Baggins continues his journey towards the Lonely Mountain, and towards the terrifying dragon Smaug.
At Any Price – 10.00pm, BBC2
Drama staring Hollywood A-listers Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron. Quaid stars as the ambitious father pushing his son into becoming a part of the family’s farming empire, but Efron has his eyes set on racing cars. When the family business is investigated by the authorities, this father-son relationship is tested as it never has been before.
The Shallows – 10.10pm, Sky Premiere
Blake Lively stars as Nancy, a grieving medical student who becomes stranded just 200 yards from shore after being attacked by a Great White shark.
East Is East – 11.05pm, Channel 4
This award-winning comedy drama, set in 1970s Salford, follows a traditional Pakistani father and the struggles he faces trying to arrange marriages for his children, who have all been born and brought up in Britain.
Purple Rain – 11.05pm, Channel 5
Musical drama starring Prince in his acting debut. An aspiring musician struggles to catch a break on the Minneapolis music scene. A must-see for any Prince fans, and the inspiration for his studio album of the same name.
