The two might have competed for box office records, but Avatar and Star Wars won't be staging a rematch next year. Avatar 2 and Star Wars Episode VIII had been expected to duke it out in December 2017, but now insiders do not believe Avatar will be ready in time, the Wrap reports.

There is currently no word on when Avatar 2, or James Cameron's two further sequels planned for 2018 and 2019, will now be released. Rogue One, the first Star Wars spin-off film, will be released at the end of this year.
